Children's Liturgy of the Word

What is Children's Liturgy of the Word? Children's Liturgy of the Word, or as it is more affectionately known - CLOW,  is an extension of the Mass.  It is a worship experience geared especially for children ages 4 through first grade that is currently offered at the 11:00 AM Mass only (September - early May).  Children's Liturgy of the Word mirrors the worship experience of the larger community in an engaging and child friendly manner.

The Word of God has a message that is as relevant and fitting for children as it is for adults; however, children often fail to hear the message simply because the adult vocabulary is beyond their comprehension. Children's Liturgy of the Word offers an opportunity for children to hear Scripture in words they understand and to share their own understanding of God's word.  Children are also guided through the proper Mass responses and postures at a much slower pace which helps them to learn and understand these responses.

There is no registration needed for families who wish to participate in Children's Liturgy of the Word. The family should simply sit in church as usual for the Introductory Rites. After the Introductory Rites, the presider invites any children ages 4 - first grade  who wish to participate to join in a procession behind the leader as they go to their worship space.  Chldrenreturn to to Mass after the General Intercessions to celebrate the Liturgy of the Eucharist with the entire community.

  • Children's Liturgy of the Word is limited to children ages 4 - first grade. Children second grade and older are asked to remain with parents in Mass.  Our second grade children who are preparing for First Sacraments are especially asked to stay in Mass.
  • We welcome youth helpers, grades 7 and up,  to come back and assist as needed, however we need  only two for each Mass.

More adult volunteers are always needed. Leaders must be at least 18 years of age and completed the Safe Environment Training from the Archdiocese and have had a background check run through the Archdiocese.  To read more about these requirements visit our Volunteers page.  If you are ready to volunteer just contact Cyndi Marlow in the parish office.
